The City of Lincoln Council is responsible for ensuring your safety by licensing Private Hire taxis and Hackney Carriages (black cabs) in the city.

All private hire cabs must have the name of the company and the words 'City of Lincoln Private Hire - illegal hire if not pre-booked' on each side of the taxi.

Cabs can only be booked in advance of your journey by calling in at a booking office or by telephone to the licenced operating company.

An offence is committed if you travel in any private hire taxi cab that you have not previously booked.

All vehicles operating from a base in the City must have a City of Lincoln Council licence plate on and in the vehicle.

The taxi driver must be wearing a numbered badge with his photograph and name showing he is licensed to drive.
